Brabus Rocket GTC: A Convertible Shooting Brake Reborn With 986 bhp

Brabus Rocket GTC: Brabus is back at it again — taking Mercedes-AMG’s most extravagant machines and turning them into something even wilder. Not long ago, the German tuner morphed the AMG SL into the Rocket GTS, a shooting brake that looked part sports car, part eccentric experiment. Now, at Monterey Car Week, Brabus has taken the roof off once more to create the Rocket GTC, which it proudly calls a “hyper gran turismo cabrio.”

Nearly 1,000 Horsepower on Tap

The Rocket GTC is based on the Mercedes-AMG SL63 S E Performance, which in stock form already churns out 805 bhp. Naturally, Brabus decided that wasn’t nearly enough. The twin-turbo V8 has been bored out to 4.5 litres, delivering a staggering 986 bhp and 1,820 Nm of torque.

To prevent catastrophic drivetrain failure, torque is electronically capped at 1,620 Nm. Even so, the numbers are absurd: 0–100 km/h in just 2.6 seconds, with a likely top speed north of 320 km/h. That makes this cabriolet quicker than many purpose-built hypercars.

Brabus Aggressive Carbon-Fibre Makeover

Brabus doesn’t just stop at engine upgrades. The Rocket GTC’s bodywork has been almost entirely reskinned in carbon fibre. The car now features:

  • Wider arches and deep bumpers
  • Numerous intakes for cooling and drama
  • A pronounced ducktail spoiler
  • Forged centre-lock wheels — 21 inches at the front, 22 at the rear — paired with carbon aero blades

A stainless steel exhaust ensures the near-1,000 bhp performance has an equally thunderous soundtrack.

Interior: Red Leather Overload

Inside, Brabus has unleashed its signature flair with a cabin drenched in bright red leather. Seats, dashboard, and even floor mats are covered in the same glossy finish. It’s dramatic, perhaps even excessive, but restraint has never been Brabus’s style.

The Point of It All

Does the Rocket GTC need to exist? Probably not. But necessity has never been Brabus’s motivation. Instead, the Rocket GTC is about presence, theatre, and excess — a machine that turns heads and obliterates expectations.

It began life as a convertible, transformed into a shooting brake, and has now returned to its open-top roots — only this time with nearly 1,000 horsepower and enough carbon fibre to keep an F1 team occupied.

The Brabus Rocket GTC is proof that when it comes to reimagining Mercedes-AMG cars, Brabus doesn’t just think outside the box — it throws the box away entirely.
