Acura RSX Prototype Revealed: Acura has lifted the covers off the RSX Prototype, a bold new all-electric, dual-motor performance SUV that will enter production in 2026. While the RSX badge once evoked the image of a sleek US-spec coupe, Acura is now taking a completely different route—transforming it into a high-tech, high-performance electric SUV.

The move marks Acura’s most ambitious leap into the EV market yet, with the RSX set to sit at the top of the brand’s new lineup.

Design: Sharp, Aggressive, and Inspired by Icons

At first glance, the RSX Prototype presents itself as a sporty, coupe-styled SUV with design cues that lean toward the aggressive. Its dramatic fastback roofline, wide stance, and powerful proportions are not just for show—they’re also intended to showcase Honda’s next-generation EV platform, which forms the basis of this machine.

The giant squared-off front fascia gives the SUV a muscular road presence, while the 21-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels house large Brembo brakes, signaling its performance credentials. Acura also hints at a long wheelbase, which should provide stability at speed and more cabin space.

At the rear, a striking lightbar design pays homage to the second-generation NSX supercar, underscoring the RSX’s performance DNA.

Acura RSX Prototype Powertrain & Performance

Although Acura has yet to disclose specific power figures, it has confirmed that the RSX will be equipped with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive system. This setup is designed to deliver strong acceleration and enhanced traction in all conditions.

The SUV also features a sport-tuned double wishbone front suspension, a hallmark of performance vehicles, aimed at offering an engaging and dynamic driving experience.

Acura has promised that the RSX will be fun to drive while also incorporating “top-of-the-class” driver assistance technologies.

Positioning in Acura’s Lineup

The RSX Prototype isn’t just another SUV—it represents the future direction of Acura as a brand. According to Yasutake Tsuchida, Vice President of R&D and Creative Director at Acura:

“Starting from this all-new RSX, we will redefine the Acura brand around timeless beauty and a high-tech feel that is essential for a performance and unique brand.”

When it launches in 2026, the RSX will sit above the rest of Acura’s lineup, serving as a flagship performance SUV.

The Bigger Picture

The RSX’s transformation from a coupe to a high-performance electric SUV mirrors a broader industry trend—where manufacturers are shifting toward EV SUVs and crossovers, catering to growing demand while leveraging performance branding.

With competitors like the Lotus Eletre and other performance-oriented EV SUVs already in the market, Acura is clearly aiming to carve a niche with the RSX as both a luxury family vehicle and a performance statement.
