BYD Atto 2: Chinese EV giant BYD is expanding its UK line-up with the launch of the new Atto 2 crossover, arriving next month with prices starting from £30,850. Positioned between the Dolphin hatchback and the Atto 3 SUV, the Atto 2 enters one of the most competitive segments in the electric car market.

Aiming at Premium Rivals

While its base price places it alongside rivals such as the Jeep Avenger and Hyundai Kona Electric, BYD has made it clear that the Atto 2 is designed to also compete with more premium EVs including the Smart #1 and Volvo EX30.

The firm is banking on generous standard equipment to give the Atto 2 an edge. Even the entry-level Boost trim features:

  • 17-inch alloys
  • A 12.8-inch rotatable touchscreen (shared with the Atto 3)
  • Wireless charging
  • An eight-speaker high-tech audio system
  • Vehicle-to-load (V2L) tech for powering external devices
  • A heat pump as standard

BYD Powertrains and Performance

The Boost model is equipped with a 174bhp front-mounted motor powered by a 51.1kWh battery, giving a claimed range of 214 miles. Charging speeds reach 82kW, allowing a 30–80% top-up in 30 minutes.

Later this year, the higher-spec Comfort model will join the range at £34,950. It will add:

  • A larger 15.6-inch touchscreen
  • Improved cabin materials
  • A 64.8kWh battery offering up to 261 miles of range
  • A 201bhp motor
  • Faster charging at 155kW, cutting 30–80% charge time to just 21 minutes

Both versions accelerate from 0–62mph in 7.9 seconds, with a top speed of 99mph.

Size and Practicality

Measuring 4.31m long, 1.83m wide and 1.68m tall, the Atto 2 is a compact yet practical crossover. It offers five-seat accommodation and a 400-litre boot, making it a higher-riding alternative to the Dolphin hatch.

The Road Ahead

With demand for affordable crossovers heating up, the Atto 2 gives BYD a stronger foothold in the UK EV market. By combining keen pricing, premium features, and practical range, BYD hopes the Atto 2 can lure buyers away from both value-focused and premium rivals — including the Volvo EX30, one of the most talked-about EVs of 2025.
